Oberderdingen

Geography:
Located between Karlsruhe and Heilbronn, Oberderdingen is situated by the hills of the Stromberg Region. The town covers 33,57 square kilometers with 10,000 inhabitants.

History:
This region which was a stronghold of the Dukes of Wurttemburg against the Dukes of Palatine, was inhabited by the Lords of Derdingen during the Middle Ages. All of this land was later in the possession of the monastery of Herrenaub, which built a castle, with a moat. After the Reformation Derdingen, Oberderdingen was under the jurisdiction of Derdingen until 1806. By 1850, Oberderdingen became part of Baden and Derdingen went to Maulbronn.
The community economic life is centered around vineyards and two large firms that manufacture kitchen equipment.
In 1973, the community became part of the administrative district of Karlsruhe.
